摘要:In this talk, we will present fast and superfast methods for solving some important dense and sparse eigenvalue problems. We take advantage of various types of structures in divide-and-conquer strategies, contour-integral methods, bisection, etc. Analytical studies of some numerical approximation schemes are performed. Accelerations of the eigenvalue solutions are made via randomization, fast multipole strategies, multi-shifted factorization, fast eigenvalue count, etc. For certain cases, nearly linear complexity can be achieved for the entire eigenvalue decomposition. The accuracy and stability behaviors will be justified. The fast eigenvalue solutions provide ways to tackle some major computational challenges in traditional numerical computations, especially PDE solutions. Part of the work is joint with Raymond Chan, James Vogel, and Xin Ye.

报告人简介:Prof. Jianlin Xia,博士毕业于美国加州大学伯克利分校,现任职于美国普渡大学数学系。研究领域为数值线性代数、科学计算等,主要研究兴趣包括快速直接解法和结构矩阵。曾获NSF CAREER Award,University Faculty Scholar Award。自2017年起担任Appl. Numer. Math.的编委,近年来在SIAM J. Sci. Comput.、SIAM J. Matrix Anal. Appl.等学术期刊上发表论文50余篇。
